James Edward Gibson

Graveside services for James Edward “Stauby” Gibson, 73, will be held 3 p. m. today at Cedarvale Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Welch of First United Methodist Church officiating.

Mr. Gibson was born Sept. 20, 1919 in Bay City to Robert and Helen Helmecke Gibson and he died Jan. 30, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was associated with the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years.

Survivors include a sister, Katherine Ryman of Brazoria; two nieces, Hazel Coon of Victoria and Hellen Meyer of Comfort; a nephew, Michael Ryman; three great-nieces; one great-nephew and two great-great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Pete Hale, Skipper Osborne, Mike Baker, Craig Sharp, Leroy Cunningham and Don Noska. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Hurta and Dennis Brooks.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Mary Gibson

Funeral services for Mary Gibson, 92, of Van Vleck will be held 2 p. m. Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jim Hardaway officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Gibson was born July 26, 1895, to Henry and Alberta Jarrell Crist and died Jan. 20, 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

A resident of Van Vleck since 1921, she was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include a daughter, Frankie LaBlanc of Port Arthur; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers include Art Martinez, Ken Tyler, Odie Thomas, Rickey Thomas, Woody Thomas and Clint Lowery. Honorary pallbearers include James Lowery and Sam Sain.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Funeral Services Held Sunday For Robert M. Gibson

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Church of Christ for Mr. Robert M. Gibson, 70, who died at his home Friday night about 10 o’clock following a brief illness. He was stricken while on his way to town Friday.

Mr. Gibson had been a resident of Matagorda county for more than forty years where he had been engaged in business and he had also taken an active interest in his church work.

Rev. Metcalffe and Reverend H. W. Sargent of the Church of Christ joined to pay tribute to Mr. Gibson and Reverend Sargent officiated at the Cedarvale Cemetery. Matchett-Newman Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Gibson; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Vantresse, Kingsville, Mrs. Kathryn Ryman of Lake Jackson; one son, James Gibson of Bay City; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Post  of Houston; two brothers, Joe Gibson of Dallas and Lucious Gibson, Oklahoma; three grandchildren.

Robert M. Gibson Buried Sunday At Cedarvale Cemetery

Robert M. Gibson, 70, resident of Matagorda County for 40 years, was buried Sunday in Cedarvale Cemetery after funeral services held at the Church of Christ with the Rev. H. W. Sargent officiating.

Pallbearers were E. A. Fisher, H. O. Johnson, Joe Rogers, Weaver Starnes, O. L. Pentecost and W. W. Mitchell.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Gibson; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Ventresse, Kingsville, and Mrs. Kathryn Ryman, Lake Jackson; one son, James Gibson, Bay City; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Post, Houston; two brothers, Joe Gibson, Dallas and Lucious Gibson, Oklahoma, and three grandchildren.

Matchett-Newman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Graves Rites to be Friday

 

Hugh Wyatt Graves, 1301 Ave. H in Bay City, passed away in the Santa Fe Hospital in Temple, Texas, on Tuesday at 9:30 PM. A retired Santa Fe Agent, Graves had been a resident of Bay City for 19 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

 

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Bay City, Friday at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Billy Norton, pastor of the New Gulf Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

He is survived by: his wife, Naomi Robertson Graves of Bay City; a daughter, Mrs. Wyatt Graves Griffith of Houston; and, a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Hall of Gary, Indiana.

 

Pallbearers will be Clay Richardson, Robert Anderson, Paul Powers, Connie Anderson, Jimmy Norton, and Dr. E. A. Einkauf. The Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Bay City and the First Baptist Church of New Gulf will be honorary pallbearers.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Green, Mrs. Evelyn Deshotels, 45, died Aug. 2. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a. m. Monday at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Milton McWilliams officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery. A resident of Bay City for 22 years, she is survived by her husband, Felton Allen Green, Sr., of Bay City; her mother, Mrs. Amanda Cammack Deshotels of Bay City; a daughter, Janet Green Hawthorne of Bay City, two sons Felton Allen Green, Jr. of Bay City and Gary Douglas Green of Bay City; one sister Dorothy Lois Deshotels of Houston; and one brother, Jesse Douglas Deshotels of Houston. Pallbearers were Burton LeTulle, Charley Eppright, Shelton Breeden, Frank Hurley, Bill Penny and Mike Harrison. Taylor Brothers is in charge of arrangements.

Wasp Sting Fatal To Bay City Woman

A wasp sting was fatal to the wife of a Bay City business man Saturday.

Reports of the incident indicate that Mrs. Felton (Evelyn) Deshotels Green, 45, was stung shortly after noon Saturday and went into her home complaining of feeling ill.

Her husband took her to Matagorda General Hospital, but apparently she died before arrival.

She had been a Bay City resident for 22 years.

Survivors are her husband, Felton Allen Green Sr. of Bay City; her mother, Mrs. Amanda Cammack Deshotels of Bay City; a daughter, Janet Green Hawthorne of Bay City; two sons, Felton Allen Green Jr. and Gary Douglas Green of Bay City; a sister, Dorothy Lois Deshotels of Houston and a brother, Jesse Douglas Deshotels of Houston.

Services were held at 10:30 a. m. today at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with interment in Cedarvale Cemetery. The Rev. Milton McWilliams officiated.

Pallbearers were Burton LeTulle, Charley Eppright, Shelton Breeden, Frank Hurley, Bill Penny and Mike Harrison.

Dorothy C. Grisham

Dorothy C. Grisham, 73, of Bay City, died March 16, 2001 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was born April 30, 1927 in Dallas to the late Joe B. and Belvieu Miller Wilson.

Mrs. Grisham was a member of the Pentecostal Church and a resident of Bay City since 1974.

Survivors include: husband; Carl J. Grisham of Bay City; two daughters and sons-in-law; Sharon May and Richard Harlow of Cut and Shoot, Texas, Kathy and James Dill of Waco; two sons and a daughter-in-law Larry Douglas and Dixie Jemigan of Mission, Texas and Ronald Lynn Sheffield of Corpus Christi; sister Arvilleen Keaton of Mesquite, Texas; brother, W. H. Wilson of Quintan, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Sabrina Pitts and husband Terry of Houston, Anthony Harlow of Cut and Shoot, Trisha More, Kemberly Hale and Mark Hale of Waco, Shelly Bullock of Bay City, Joy Jemigan of Bay City, Lacey Socha of Van Vleck, LaDeania Jemigan of Canton, Texas, Chuck and Cody Sheffield of Lafayette, La; 10 great grandchildren, Kristofer, Cameron and Victoria Pitts, Tevin Hale, Jorge Dill, Tamera More, Sara Bullock, Robyn Bullock, Melisa and Lorian Bullock.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Jolietia Miller, and brother, Ardean Wilson.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 19 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Jemigan, Richard Harlow, James Dill, David Bullock, William Kennan and Robert Escobedo.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros Funeral Home.
