JOHN MILFORD4 HANKINS gave a statement for Mary Nichols who was living at Kerrville, Kerr Co., TX, wife of James Wilson Nichols, to apply for a pension for Nichols's service to Texas saying that he) J.M. Hankins had known James Wilson Nichols all his life (meaning all the life of J.M. Hankins) and that he had viewed Nichols's body after his death.  John Milford Hankins's mother was Caroline Day, daughter of Johnson Day.  Caroline Day's brother, James Milford Day married Martha Hannah Nichols who was a sister of James Wilson Nichols.  Also, John Milford Hankins's father, Eli Hankins was in the service of Texas during the Mexican War and was in McCullough's group, along with James Wilson Nichols who served in Hays division as a spy with the rank of Corporal.

Her death certificate states she was a widow, living at 2923 S. Presa in San Antonio at the time of her death. She died from pneumonia. Informant on her death certificate is listed as John P. Hankins, 2302 Ruiz, San Antonio. This John Hankins is a son of John and Glendora Hankins. He was born June 7, 1880 in Texas, and died January 26, 1950 in the San Antonio State Hospital, San Antonio Texas. His death certificate lists him as married, and to be buried in the Confederate Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. This certificate states that she is to be buried at Kerrville, Texas.
