George Hugh
Gaston was born in Texas. He married Lucy Collins about 1903 in Texas, possibly in Henderson County. The couple had four children: John Collins Gaston, born about 1904,
George Hugh Gaston, Jr., born about 1907, Isabella Gaston born about 1909 and
William “Billy” Gaston born about 1911.
All were born in Dallas
County.
George’s
parents were John Gaston and Betsy (Miller) Gaston. It’s probable that they were related to
William Henry Gaston who helped found the city of Dallas.
William Henry was born in Alabama in
1840 and died in Dallas
in 1927.
In the 1900 Dallas County census, George was listed as an
owner and builder of carriages. On his
death certificate his occupation was given as “car dealer and inventor”. He died in San
Antonio and had a private burial at his ranch on Cypress Creek Road
in Kerr County.
