Miss Amanda Treadaway
Was born March 25th, 1855, in Louisville, Miss. At the age of 16 became the wife of Elisha Demspey and to them where born two children, George Dempsey, who died March 13, 1911, at Amarillo, and W.R. Dempsey who now resides in Amarillo. They resided in Louiseville until the death of her husband in 1875, when she and her two small sons came to Hico, Texas where she resided until 1879 when she was united in marriage to Mr. D.W. Ellis, moving to her present home three miles south of Whitney, where she passed away Tuesday night, March 22, 1938 at 11:25
Mr. Ellis preceded her to the eternal home on Feb. 10, 1933.
To this union five children were born: J.W. Ellis, Riverside, Cal., Mrs. C. W. Reed Harlingen; B.F. Ellis and Mrs. Sam Jones of Whitney; one son, D. H. Ellis departed this life Oct. 11, 1918.
Also left to morn her departure are two stepsons, W.H. Ellis of Ardmore, Okla., and W. H. Ellis (typo should be J. M. Ellis) of West.
Grandma Ellis professed faith in Christ and united with
the Protestant Methodist Church at Liberty Hill, Texas,
some 44 years ago, living a true, consecrated Christian
life until her death.
Funeral services are to be held at the Whitney Missionary Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. E. Weller, and Rev. A. K. Marney, Methodist pastor, Undertaker Scruggs in charge of funeral arrangements, Interment will be in Degraffenreid cemetery.
