Welcome y Bienvenidos

Welcome to the home of Hidalgo County Genealogical Society located in Deep South Texas on the border of Mexico. HCGS was founded in 1975 as McAllen Genealogical Society. Our borders were enlarged in 2006, when we became Hidalgo County Genealogical Society.

HCGS provides education and leadership through our informative seminars, general business meetings, and Palm Breezes newsletter. Since its inception over 30 years ago, this Society has continued to provide library assistance and has contributed over 6500 books and materials to the Genealogy Collection at McAllen Memorial Library, making it the largest genealogy collection in South Texas. At Edinburg the Special Collections of the University of Texas Pan American Library also holds a sizeable collection of both county and area history and genealogy.

The purpose of this web site is to support the activities of HCGS. We are a non-profit educational organization and members of the Federation of Genealogical Societies.

At this time we are unable to fulfill research requests.
