Reporter Newspaper on Microfilm

The Reporter Newspaper

Years 1979 - 2002 Is On Microfilm

Twenty-four years of The Reporter newspaper have been added to the microfilm collection in the genealogy section of the Hillsboro City Library. Researchers now have easy access to issues of The Reporter newspaper from 1979 through 2002 on microfilm.

A $17,880 grant from The George G. and Alva Hudson Smith Foundation in 2003 funded the project to transfer the printed The Reporter newspapers to microfilm and then to CDs.  Cooperation between Susan Mann and her staff at the City of Hillsboro Library, the management and staff of The Reporter and the volunteers from The Hill County Genealogical Society has made this a successful project. Thanks to Chairman Anita Adler and the volunteers on the HCGS Newspaper Project committee.

Now that all the newspapers have been microfilmed, the Hillsboro City Library staff and HCGS volunteers will begin scanning the microfilm so that it can be converted to CDs for use in computers at the library. Funds from the Smith Grant were used to purchase a Canon microfilm scanner for this purpose. The Reporter from 1979 through 2002 will be scanned first. Eventually all the years of all newspapers on microfilm in the library collection will be converted to CDs.

It will take many hours by volunteers to complete the scanning of all the rolls of microfilmed newspapers in the collection. To volunteer to help with the scanning contact Mollie Stinson through the e-mail address for this web site.
