William (Bill) Russel Rainey, 69, passed away in Haskell, Texas January 23, 2012. Services will be held at the Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, in Haskell with Rev. Donnie Harbers, Rev. Don Timberlake, and Bro. Morris Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Weinert Cemetery in Weinert under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for Wednesday evening, January 25, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Haskell.

Bill was born December 1, 1942, in Weinert to Russel and Hazel (Hamilton) Rainey. He married Myra Stephens in Haskell June 30, 1961. Bill was born and raised in Weinert and eventually lived in Abilene until his return to Haskell 8 years ago. Bill was a machinist and a member of the Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church in Haskell.

Bill is survived by his wife, Myra of Haskell; a son, David Rainey of Watauga, Texas; his daughter, Donna Birchum of Potosi, Texas; a brother, Luther (Bud) Rainey and wife Sandra of Friona, Texas; 3 sisters, Lora Lois Timberlake and husband Don of Houston, Ruby Anderson and husband Frank of Weinert, and Janice Isbell and husband Danny of Potosi; 4 grandchildren, 1st Lt. Brent Casey Birchum of the U.S. Marines in Afganistan, Bryan Coleman Birchum of Austin, Texas, Mackensie Rainey and Landon Troy Rainey both of Watouga, Texas; a Godson, Curt Muehlstein and wife Naomi of Stamford; his aunt, Ruby Wooten and her husband Wallace of Haskell; 4 nieces; 7 nephews; 6 great-nieces; and 7 great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Russel and Hazel Rainey.    If desired, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church of Haskell or West Texas Rehab Center in Abilene.
