Joan Berry Medford
Haskell

Joan Berry Medford peacefully passed away on March 31, 2012, at Windcrest Care Center in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Haskell, Texas, with Rev. Dustin Wilhite officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. Monday at Smith Family Funeral Home in Haskell.

Joan was born on August 31, 1929, in Big Spring, Texas, to Cliff and Billie Berry. She was raised in Haskell and graduated from Haskell High School in 1947 and from Hardin-Simmons University in 1952 where she was a proud member of the Cowgirls. She married Johnny Medford on November 18, 1952. Joan owned and operated the Sears Catalogue store in Haskell and later taught Special Education in Aspermont for ten years. She and Johnny lived for a period of time in New Mexico. She enjoyed her time in "Mexico," as she referred to it. Joan loved the Indian culture and arts, and yellow roses. She also enjoyed reminiscing about growing up in Haskell, the early days with her brother, sister, parents, and grandparents, and the life she lived and loved. Joan never had children, but her niece and nephews always thought of her as their second mother, and she loved them as her own and considered them her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Medford; her parents Cliff and Billie Berry; her sister, Linda Berry Holley; her sister-in-law, Joy Allen Berry; and a great-niece, Misty Jo Holley.

Her life is celebrated by her brother, Jim "Boosky" Berry of Clyde; niece Lisa Berry Cade of Rotan; nephews Bill Holley, Jr. of Haskell, Cliff Holley of Wesley Chapel, Florida; John Holley of Vernon, Scott Berry of Clyde; brother-in-law Bill Holley, Sr. of Clyde, and a host of great nieces and nephews.    The family would like to thank the staff of Windcrest Care Center for their love, care, and support.
