"Mary" Kammenga

Maria "Mary" Kammenga passed away Thursday
evening, April 19, 2012, at her home in Haskell.
She was 95. Funeral services will be held at
2:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2012, at Eastside
Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Beerley
officiating. Burial will follow at Willow
Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family
Funeral Homes. A visitation is planned for
Sunday evening, April 22, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:30
p.m. at the funeral home.
Maria Springelkamp was born March 18, 1917, in
Slochteren, Netherlands to Egbert and Grietje (Buurman)
Springelkamp. She married Matthew Kammenga on
May 31, 1938, in Groningen, Netherlands and in
1954 they immigrated to Kingsville, Ontario
Canada. After Matthew's death in 1991, she
remained in Canada until moving to Haskell 1994.
She was loved and known to everyone as "Mary K".
Mrs. Kammenga served in the choir at Eastside
Baptist Church, she was a hostess for Sunshine,
visited and ministered at the nursing home and
she enjoyed Haskell Experienced Citizens.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Kammenga are her two
grandsons, Billy Thomas and Joey Thomas, and her
six great-grandchildren, Joshua Thomas, Aaron
Thomas, Keaton Thomas, Payton Thomas, Tanner
Thomas and Mackenzie Thomas.
She is preceded in death by her husband Matthew;
her parents, brother; and a sister.
Mrs. Kammenga is survived by her daughter, Grace
Thomas and husband Bill of Haskell; 2 grandsons,
Billy Thomas of Haskell; Joey Thomas and wife
Tiffany also of Haskell; 6 great grandchildren,
Joshua, Aaron, and Keaton Thomas all of Lubbock
and Mackenzie, Payton, and Tanner Thomas of
Haskell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and
cousins in The Netherlands.
