Abilene
Wallace Hughey Cox, Jr. died in Abilene, Texas
after a brief illness on July 11, 2012. A
service to celebrate his life will be held at
First United Methodist Church in Haskell at
10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 with Rev.
Dustin Wilhite officiating. Visitation and
viewing will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on
Sunday, July 10th at First United Methodist
Church. Arrangements were made under the
direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes of
Haskell.
The son of Wallace Hughey Cox, Sr. and Ruth
Chambers Cox, Wallace was born July 29, 1928, in
Haskell, Texas. Wallace graduated from Haskell
High School in 1945 and Texas A&M University in
1949. Wallace served in the United States Army
and was Aide De Camp for two Major Generals at
Fort Sill, OK - Major General Harper and Major
General Hart. In 1954, Wallace returned to
Haskell to work in the family business, Jones
Cox & Co. He married Joan (Jo) Copenhaver on
February 22, 1958, in Fort Worth, Texas. Wallace
was a faithful member of First United Methodist
Church in Haskell where he served in many
leadership capacities and taught Sunday school.
Wallace will be remembered as a humble, Godly
man and a devoted son, husband, father,
grandfather, cousin and friend.
Survivors include; three sons: John and wife
Sally of Washington, D.C., Elliott and wife
Carrie of Snyder, Paul and wife Dawn of
Greenwood, IN; two daughters, Sarah Snailum of
Fort Worth, Emily Cox of San Antonio; eight
grandchildren, Kate Cox of Washington, D.C.,
Courtney, Alison and Hunter Cox of Snyder;
Samuel, Benjamin, Caroline and Joseph Cox of
Greenwood, IN and one great-grandchild: Hunter
Beck Boyd.
Wallace was preceded in death by his mother and
father and his wife Jo.
