Seguin Conservation Society buys Zorn Home

Seguin Conservation Society buys Zorn Home
Purchase contract for the old Zorn Home Estate in downtown Seguin will be completed this week by the Seguin Conservation Society.
Over two acres of property are included in the 110 year old home which resembles an ancient Greek Temple.
The society plans to institute an extensive restoration program soon.
Tom Gibbs, Zorn House campaign chairman for the Conservation Society, reports that necessary funds have not been raised as yet, but that the solicitation campaign would be continued.
Some 20 downtown businessmen this week formed into collection teams to visit area business houses to seek additional aid.
"Results of their campaigning have been very gratifying," Gibbs reported, adding "aid will continue to be sought until the Zorn project is completed."
The Conservation Society has envisioned the Zorn property as the future home of a model civic center of this area.
Meanwhile, another local civic movement has been offered one whole floor of the Zorn property for the establishment of an improved city library.
The Zorn House was built by Col. Joshua Young for his daughter, Mrs. LeGette, during the early 1850's.
It was later purchased by Mayor Joe Zorn and subsequently became known as the "Zorn Home."
The house is square with a high column front porch.  The roof is flat and is lined with tin forming a square tank.  This was used as a reservoir for water, serving the twofold purpose of cooling the residence and making available a water supply in case of Indian attack.
"Sebastopol" has been called the beautifully planned antebellum Texas.  During the Architect's 1930 survey, it received an award of merit from the U. S. Department of the Interior, and the plans and specifications are on file in the Library of Congress.
