Zuehl Cemetery

From IH 10 West take the Zuehl Road exit, go about .2 mile, then left on Caffrey Road (private) another .2 mile.

There is a sign for that and 2 other cemeteries on the same road (Victor Garza Memorial Park and Valdez Cemetery).

The Zuehl Family Cemetery was established by Heinrich (Wilhelm) Zuehl.  The following info was obtained from the Zuehl Family History edited by Joyce Zaiontz in 1995:

"Just before Wilhelm Zuehl passed away in 1912, he laid aside a good-size plot of land for the Zuehl Family Cemetery.  He also bought the fence that at one time surrounded the Seguin Courthouse.  He held a 'putting up the fence day' with everyone who could, to come and land a hand.  As usual, Wilhelm furnished plenty of food and drink for the occasion and the job was done in short order."

Carl Christian Zuehl Marker

Eight generations of the ancestors of the Carl Christian Zuehl - Hanna Marie Wreede Zuehl  have contributed to the legacy of Texas History since 1846.  Leaving their hometown in Tribsees, Stralsund,  Prussia with three of their five children, they boarded Mercur on August 24 1846.  Three months later they arrived in Galveston and were transported by ship to Indianola, Texas.. From Indianola, they began their journey to Comal and Guadalupe Counties.  Their son, Wilhelm, married Katherina.  They had two children.  Katherina and daughter died of cholera.  Wilhelm and his second wife Wilhelmine Gutz, had ten more children

Prior to his death, June 15, 1912. Wilhelm set aside a lot for the Zuehl Cemetery, near the Zuehl Community in Guadalupe County.  Wilhelm purchased a wrought iron fence originally had been at the third 1883 Court House and was sold when no longer needed.

On Guadalupe County's 150th birthday the descendants of Wilhelm Zuehl lovingly returned a portion of the wrought iron fence to Guadalupe County this gesture is to honor all those who continue the legacy of the Zuehl Family in Texas and Guadalupe County.
