Military Service
Born 12 Oct 1844, GA. Lived in AR when the Civil War broke out. Was first Color bearer, Co. A, 5th AR state troops at Battle of Wilson's Creek; Joined 40th TN artillery at Island #10 and escaped the surrender (his brother, Robert W. Keith, was captured) and Memphis, and was Cpl. in TN Heavy Artilery at Oak Hills and Vicksburg, MS (gunner on a 7-1/2" Brooke rifle, Battery #4 on the river front), wounded, captured and paroled after the surrender at Vicksburg; later fought at Camden, AR and Jenkins Ferry at Saline River, AR.
