Descendants of Benjamin Thomas Williams Submitted by Ken Williams KILOQUEBEC4CX@peoplepc.com Generation No. 1 1. BENJAMIN THOMAS1 WILLIAMS1 was born January 22, 1864 in Montgomery Co Tx, and died December 09, 1939 in Grimes Co.Tx. He married MARTHA ELIZA TURBEN December 30, 1886 in Montgomery Co. Tx, daughter of NIELS THORBJORNSEN and EURILDA WEAVER. She was born July 16, 1869 in Montgomery County, Tx, and died December 14, 1934 in Plantersville, Tx. Notes for BENJAMIN THOMAS WILLIAMS: STATEMENT OF BENJAMIN THOMAS WILLIAMS: I was born on 22 of Jan 1863 in Montgomery Co. Tx. My full name is Benjamin Thomas Williams. My parents full name is Thomas Abbense Williams and Sarah Sallie Summers Williams. Their home was located at the date of my birth at or near the forks of Spring Creek and Cypress Creek. During the Civil War mother took me and went to live with her [brother]- in-law Louis [Lewis] Williams, who at that time lived on Spring Creek near the present site of Spring Texas. After the Civil War mother took me and went to Harris County on Cypress Creek to cook for Captain Delless sawmill crew. During the year of 1868 a cousin by the name of Mack Taylor kidnapped me and carried me to Roberson Co. His purpose being to get part of our personal property, which was in possesion of Louis (Lewis) Williams and consisted of cattle and hogs and few odds and ends. 1869 I ran away and went to Decker Prairie, Montgomery Co. to my mother who was working then for Peter Josserand who ran a sawmill on Decker Prairie. In the year(same) 1869, I went to live with a aged widow by the name of Julie Josserand, Peter Josserand's mother.( 1869 )She married Josserand, lived in Harris Co. on Willow Creek. I lived with her for two years. Then in 1871 we moved to Mont. Co. to live with her son. He worked at a sugar mill a little south and east of the old Decker Branch. I lived with these people until 1877. My mother married William Mochnanon in 1877. I went and lived with them in Mont. Co. During the time I liked my home with them. I worked in Trinity for Peter Josserand at his sawmill. Along about 1880 or 1881 William Mochnanom died. Mother and I moved to Decker Prairie. Lived there until 1886. The memory of my mother I have the best of my knowledge facts' concerning people. Grandfather Summer was an old settler of Texas. Mother related a tory of the runaway people. How Grandmother picked up a baby on this hill. Nick had been (dropped). The child was playing in a puddle of mud where it dropped from one of the fleeing wagons. Grandfather Albert Summers was a bear hunter and_____. I know it to be a fact that Albert Summers people helped survey east Texas. Also the home place was about 7 miles from Swarrot down the river, two creeks, Temple and Long King is on the place. I can recall to my memory a trip my mother and I made to Polk Co. when I was very small. END (Comments by Kenneth Williams) This was written by Ruby Walker when she was 13 years old, (1937), at the kitchen table of her mother Nellie Williams Walker who was our Williams Family Historian. There are some mistakes but over all, it is very good. Somers, not Summers. Absalom instead of Abbense. Mochman instead of Mochnanom. 1869 above should probably be 1870 and as Ben was only 6 years old at the time and reciting this history at age 64 it is a very good memory recall. Benjamin is on the 1870 Brazos Co. census, 7 yrs old and living with David Taylor and his wife Susan (Williams, daughter of James Carroll Williams). Roberson = Robertson Co. Spring and Cypress Creeks come together north of Houston Intercontinental Airport. Lee road almost makes it to this spot. Swarrot is Swartout in Polk Co. One further comment: Ben and Mattie give their children a name from the first children of Thomas and Susannah. Although Horace is not in any of our personal notes that I am aware of, his name must have been known to pass on to one of their boys. Son, Charles could be named for the Charles Williams that remained in Jones Co Ms. Their daughter, Nellie, probably named after Mary Eleanor "Nellie" Williams from this generation also. WILLIAMS Benjamin Thomas Williams and Martha "Mattie" Eliza Turben were united in marriage at the home of S.H. Weaver of Montgomery Co. Tx known as Decker Prairie in 1886. Benjamin Thomas Williams birth Jan 22, 1864. Martha Eliza Turben birth July 16, 1869 Montgomery Co. Tx. There is family records to prove the above facts. We left Decker Prairie 1887 for Trinity Co. near Groveton at Pete and Frank Josserand sawmill. Lived there till the fall 1888. Then we moved back to Mont. Co. Decker Prairie on a farm by Sarah " Sallie" Somers Williams. We lived and farmed on this place until Oct 1897. (?) We bought a farm from T S Blake four miles south of Plantersville Tx. We lived and farmed on this place until 1902, then we moved to Edgar Cude sawmill, two miles south of Plantersville, Grimes Co. We left then for Hardin Co. oilfield at Saratoga Texas where we lived till 1908. Then we moved back to Grimes Co. two miles south of Plantersville where we bought a farm from Maywald, where we have lived since. She drove to Galveston to the hospital at UTMB often and this is before blacktop roads between Pinehurst and Montgomery. Numerous times she would stop at Recreation Acres and pick me up. About 30 miles of slow going for us. We would stop under several very large oaks on this old dusty road and she would tell me that under these trees General Sam Houston would stop and rest. She would speak with a thick Polish accent which I enjoyed listening to. kw More About JULIA ANN TOMKIVITS: Burial: St Joseph's Cemetery Grimes Co Tx Children of THOMAS WILLIAMS and JULIA TOMKIVITS are: 13. i. He married (2) UNKNOWN. Notes for CISRO LEWIS WILLIAMS: Lewis is the only blond haired, blue eyed Williams that we are aware of. He loved to travel and ended up in Seattle Washington in the "Marine View Nursing Home" at 74 years old. While a young man he helped Dale Williams build the house on Cypress Creek that the Jethro Williams clan grew up in. While in Seattle he had the people believing he was a Cowboy and his business was Bronc Busting. This is off his death certificate and the informant is "Nursing Home Records". Lewis divorced Viola Skinner and married a woman (no name) from Nevada or Utah or somewhere out West and had twin girls. She divorced Lewis and took the twins to California. All this from Claudia Grant/Reynolds. Lewis and his brother Sam had TB also per Claudia. Lewis was drafted into the US Army Air Force Nov 21, 1942 and discharged Feb 12, 1943 at Sioux Falls SD. Now this is the beginning of WW ll. So I asked "Bert" why such a short term? He got drunk and punched an Officer was the answer. Maybe it was that name CISRO or maybe it was South Dakota in the winter time that set him off.
