Albuquerque Cemetery

Gonzales County, Texas

This cemetery was copied by Miss Karen Mac Smith, Nixon Texas, about 1970. She was granddaughter of A.F. Smith.

The inventory was printed in the quarterly of theGenealogical & Historical Society, Gonzales, TX.

The cemetery is on a mesquite hill some 3/4 mile from the site of Old Albuquerque, a Post Office 1870-1883. The land belongs (at the time of publication) to Mrs. Byron Johnson (nee Beatrice McCracken). The cemetery is not on a public road, but is in the middle of a pasture. It can be reached by following F.M. 1681 between Nixon and #123, and taking any one of several dirt roads in an easterly direction. An iron gate in east-west fence line of property belonging to Miss Karon Mac Smith gives access to "sendero" to iron gate in fence that separates Smith and Johnston land and second "sendero" to burial ground.

This is a list of the known dead buried there. All gaves have been marked except that of Lycurgis McCracken, for which search of Confederate record is still being made. Miss McCrackens' notes are added and are designated thus ( ).
