Jank, John

The Goliad Advance-Guard, Goliad, Texas Thursday April 28, 1938 p. 1.

John Jank, 74, Buried at Ander

Death Comes to Pioneer Goliad County Citizen on Tuesday, April 19, at 7 O’clock

Last rites were held at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 20, at Ander, for John Jank, 74, pioneer citizen and well known farmer of this county, whose death occurred in a hospital in this city the preceding evening at 7 o'clock.  Rev. Paul Kuehner, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Goliad, and Rev. O.K. Oehlke, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, officiated at the burial services for the deceased.  Interment took place in the Lutheran Cemetery at Ander.

Active pallbearers were:  Messrs. August and Gus Diebel, Richard Arnold, Alois Gisler, Fritz Moritz and Richard Goehring.

The deceased was born in the Wendish district of Germany, December 7, 1863 to George Jank and Anna Nee Berger, and in early life was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Christian faith.  He emigrated with his parents and lived in the Germantown (now Schroeder) community until 1894.  In this latter community he led to the marriage altar Miss Christiana Krautsche, who preceded him to the grave, her death occurring September 2, 1932.

Mr. Jank was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Ander, and one of its most loyal members.  Being a Christian gentleman in every sense of the word, he was an outstanding example for its members, and a dependable backer of his church and congregation.  The church and community have sustained a big loss, but heaven is the richer.

Surviving to mourn the passing of this fine gentleman are three daughters and two sons, as follows:  Mrs. Hulda Hadsorff of Kilgore; Mrs. Alma Hausmann of Kilgore; and Mrs. Frank Seiler of Ander; Albert of San Antonio, and Gustav Jank of Kilgore.  Preceding the father in death were three infants, and his son, Paul, who during the World War died at Camp Travis.

Other survivors are three sisters:  Mrs. Anna Jank of Schroeder; Mrs. Robert Albrecht of Goliad; and Mrs. Mary Rehling of Yoakum; three brothers, August, Houston; Charles, Refugio; and Traugott Jank of Yoakum.  Eighteen grandchildren and host of other relatives also survive.

The Advance-Guard extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved children and other relatives.
