        Dr. George W. Baines, instructor of the class, is seated at center in front row.  Dr. Baines was the 4th in four generation of Baptist ministers.  His father George Washington Baines, Jr. had been president of Baylor University and a close friend of Sam Houston. The younger Dr. Baines' brother, Joseph Wilson Baines, was the father of Rebekah Baines Johnson.  The Rev. Link Hugh Billings named his last son, Roger Baines Billings,  born 1917, after his teacher.
