Nealy Don "Rusty" Browning
Graveside services for
Nealy Don "Rusty" Browning,
74, of Post were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday,
Feb 7, 2007, in the Fluvanna Cemetery with the
Rev. Arthur Kelly officiating. Arrangements
were handled under the personal care of the
Justice-Mason Funeral Home.
He died at his home
Sunday, Feb. 4.
Born Dec 9, 1932, to
James Madison and Ruby (Sanders) Browning
in Scurry County, he attended school at Dermott
and worked in the old field. He was a driller,
tool pusher and a pumper. He married
Joy Parker Orr on
Aug 22, 1987, in Post. He moved to Post where
he worked in the oil field, retiring in 1999.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his
wife, Joy Browning
of Post; three stepsons,
Bob Carpenter of
Henryetta, Okla.,
Russell Orr of Weatherford and
Alton Orr of
Pasadena; three stepdaughters,
Janet Hopper of Big
Spring, Marla Kirk

Obituary of Dan
Bush Cockrum
Services of Dan B. Cockrum, 95, of Tahoka and formally of Post will
be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 20 at the First Baptist Church in Post
with the Reverend Steve McMeans of Lubbock, officiating. Burial will
follow in the Terrace Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal
care of Justice-Mason Funeral Home.
Dan died peaceably in his sleep Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at
Lynnwood Assisted Living in Tahoka. Born to Marion and Aurora Bush
Cockrum July 29, 1911, in Priddy, Mills County, Texas. When Dan was
a young boy, he and his family moved to Post where he attended Post
schools and grew to adulthood. Dan married the former Sybil Lorene
Marable July 24, 1938, at the First Christian Church in Post. Their
son Dan Edward was born in Lubbock on January 14, 1940. Dan B.
worked for Ed Warren at the Post Dispatch for 20 years before taking
a job as a Linotype operator at The Lubbock Avalanche Journal. In
1950 he and Robert Cato created and printed the Post Shopping News
in Post for a short period of time when he decided to establish his
own printing and office supply business, Cockrum Printing. During
his printing career, he developed and marketed nationally for
several years a four-color business card press under the corporate
name of Cockrum Enterprises.
He served more than 20 years on the Post Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a member of the local Masonic Lodge for 63 years and member
of the Shiva Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his wife Sybil of Tahoka; one son, Dan E. and wife
Lynda of Carlsbad, New Mexico; three grandchildren; Michael and his
wife Veronica of Grand Canyon, Arizona; Kimberly and Andrea Cockrum,
both of San Antonio, Texas and two great-grandchildren; Daniel A.
and Katelyn E. Cockrum of Grand Canyon, Arizona. He was preceded in
death by both parents, brothers Bryan and Jack and a sister, Minta
Chandler.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Kemp, Joe Cook, Archie Gill, Bob Hudman,
Arlon Ford, Rick Jones, Hans Hudman and Ben Owen.
Memorials are suggested to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for
Children, P.O. Box 199300, Dallas, Texas 75210-9300 or to the First
Baptist Church, 400 West Main, Post, Texas, 79356.
Services for Sybil Lorene Cockrum, 92, of
Tahoka, formerly of Post will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First
Baptist Church in Post with the Rev. Steve McMeans of Lubbock
officiating. Burial will follow in the Terrace Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the personal care of Justice-Mason Funeral
Home of Post.
Sybil died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Covenant Medical Center
in Lubbock. She was born November 27, 1916 to Francis Edward (F.E.
'Bud') and Willie Etta (Callis) Marable in Post. Sybil attended Post
Schools and graduated from Post High School in 1934. She attended
the Mission Beauty School in Roswell, N.M.
Sybil married Dan Bush Cockrum on July 24, 1938 in Post at the First
Christian Church. Dan preceded her in death on January 17, 2007.
Sybil worked for Shorty Hamilton, Parrish Grocery, Dewalt Flower
Shop, and later for Chant Lee. She and Dan owned and operated
Cockrum Printing and Office Supply until they retired. They moved to
Lynnwood Assisted Living due to health. She was a member of the
Eastern Star, Pricilla Club and the Garden Club.
She is survived by one son, Dan E. and wife Lynda Cockrum of
Carlsbad, N.M.; three grandchildren, Michael and wife Veronica
Cockrum of Grand Canyon, Ariz., Kimberly Lynn Cockrum and Andrea
Lorene Cockrum, both of San Antonio; and two great-grandchildren,
Daniel Alexander Cockrum and Katelyn Emily Cockrum, both of Grand
Canyon, Ariz.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Kemp, Joe Cook, Archie Gill, Bob Hudman,
Rick Jones, and Michael Cockrum. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hans
Hudman, Preston Poole, Jr., and Harold Craig.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 402 West Main
Street, Post, TX 79356.

Area Pioneer Dies at Age 97
Mrs. F.E. Marable, an early pioneer of this area, died last Thursday
(August 15) at 12:40 p. m. at the age of 97 at Twin Cedars Nursing
Home following a long illness. She was believed to be the oldest
resident of Garza County.
Born July 24, 1877, in Lampassas County, Texas, she was married to
Francis E. “Bud” Marable as Miss Willie E. Callis in Snyder August
24, 1894.
She moved to what is now Justiceburg in 1901 and was a charter
member of the First Baptist Church of Justiceburg when it was
organized in 1903.
Mrs. Marable moved from Justiceburg to Post in 1913 and for many
years worked in the office of Drs. A.C. Surman and the late D.C.
Williams.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Rose Askins and Mrs. Sybil
Cockrum of Post and Mrs. Frances Johnson of South Bend, Tex.; one
son, Tom Marable of Spring Valley, Calif., three grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist
Church here with the Rev. Glen Reece, pastor, officiating, assisted
by the Rev. Sam Bruton, pastor of the Assembly of God Church of
Post.
Pallbearers were Phil Boucher, Joe Duren, Hansford Hudman, Ray
Smith, DeWitt Caylor and Robert Cox.
Burial was in Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Mason Funeral
Home.
