Notes on the Word Family

from  Lillian Lesbia Word Roberts
"  My great great grandmother was Sophia McLeigh Jordon Moss,
widow of James Word, and mother of James Madison Clay Word, my grandfather.  She came to Fannin County from Tennessee.
Her husband died near Lynn Camp (now Corbin) Kentucky and is buried in the Word Cemetery at Four Mile, Ky.  She went back to
Cumberland Co., Tenn. to her father's plantation.  He was Marcellus Jordan Moss b. 1772 in Granville Co., N.C.  He married Olivia
Huff.  A Fannin Co. newspaper says she came there in 1854. It is said she came to join her daughter Mary Jane Word, who married
Harvey C. Kincaid. The Moss and Kincaid  families  were  affluent families of  Campbell Co., Tenn. The Moss home and some of the
Kindcaids still exist.
James Madison Clay Word - His wife was Catharine Jane McCraw (of the McCraw Chapel).  She was born in Christian Co., KY.of pure Scotch descent tracing her ancestors back to the Isle of Skye and the Black Isle of Scotland.
My father's brother, William Augustus Word b. 30 Sept. 1875, Windom, Texas and d. May 19, 1933 in Wellington, Texas is
buried in an unmarked grave in the cemetery.  His wife was Verna Lee Gentry,  birth date unknown.  Died Jan. 9, 1911 at Windom,
is also buried there in an unmarked grave.
Sincerely, Lillian Lesbia Word Roberts (Mrs. William Edward Roberts, Jr.) .  <[email protected]>

My father was James Bailey Word and my mother was Sarah Cooper Word, they had  an infant son, (only a few days old) born
1909 buried in an unmarked grave in the cemetery.  I have never found his death certificate.  I have thought he is buried on the lot
with Sophia Moss Word.  His name was James Cooper Word.
