From Greenville Messenger (Hunt County, Texas), November 5, 1897
Major James Woosley, a resident of Campbell, died in that town Saturday of extreme old age.  From the columns of the Evening Banner, we take the following biographical sketch of the deceased:

"Major James Woosley was born in Christian county Kentucky, on the 26th day of March, 1811; and died on the 2nd day of November, 1897, at 1:10 p. m. of old age.
Major Woosley was a man of push and pluck and in his manhood days was noted for his energy and unflagging exertions.
From Christian county, Kentucky, he crossed the Ohio river and spent some time in Illinois, then over the Mississippi he passed into Missouri, where he followed his inclination for trading.  From there he went to North Arkansas, and finally located in Texas.  He was a major in the Confederate army during the civil war.  He took an active part in the Black Hawk and Osage wars.  He was in the Mormon trouble.  Major Woosley was by nature and training a trader.  He was best pleased when he had a big trade on hand.  He was of a warm temperament, generous, free and open hearted.  He
loved life for what was in it, and yet he was not a selfish man."

The remains were carried to Belden, Cass County, Texas, for interment.
