Albert James Apple, Jr. & The TOUGH 'OMBRES
The men of the 90th Infantry Division
|
My Father,
Albert James Apple, Jr. was born on May 18, 1923 in Ladonia, Fannin County,
Texas to Albert James Apple, Sr. and Beulah Vista Grant. He was the
5th of 13 children. He died on January 27, 1990 in Fort Worth,
Texas.
My Dad was inducted
into the service on October 26, 1943 and entered on November 16, 1943 at
Dallas, Texas. According to his Separation papers, my Dad served
in the following battles and campaigns: Normandy, Northern France,
Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart and Silver
Star. He was separated at Camp Fannin, Texas on December 7, 1945.
I’ve enclosed photographs
of my Dad’s “platoon” but only a few photos had names on the back.
I
have not been able to locate any of these guys, but if anyone knows who
they are and where they are, I would love to talk to them.
The TOUGH 'OMBRES
Stamped on the back of all photos is:
Photo-Portrat und Vergrokerungsanafalt
Leopold Zirlik, Waldsassen Obpf.
On the back of this photo is written “This
is my platoon.” There are some names written in pencil – Neffendorf,
Savage, Yenchik, Apple and 7 more names I can’t read.
