EX-TEXARKANIAN KILLED IN FALL AT UNION STATION
Funeral arrangements were incomplete late Tuesday for R. P. Teel, a
46-year-old resident of Marshall who was killed early Tuesday morning when
he made a dash for the wrong train, toppled over a stairway railing in he
Texarkana Union Terminal, and fell to a platform 20 feet below.
Teel, a former Texarkanian and father of three small children, had moved
to Marshall less than one month ago.
The tragedy occurred at 4:15 a.m. while several onlookers, including a
railroad porter, stood watching helplessly.  A negro (sic) porter who spoke
to Teel several minutes before the accident, said Teel had purchased a
one-way ticket to Marshall and was running to catch a wrong train when he
fell over the railing.  Terminal officials said a train from Dallas was
pulling into the station when the accident occurred, and Teel apparently
became confused and made a dash for the wrong connection.
Survivors include his wife, three children, Robert 6, Kendall 4 and Dall
(sic should be Dale) 3, all of whom are believed visiting relatives in
Minden, La.  His body is being held at the East Funeral Home pending
completion of arrangements.
