Abstracted from, "Bonham News" Fannin Co., Texas, 7 Feb. 1908:   Joe Daniels , age 126, died last Sunday at Greenville (Hunt Co.); lived
in 3 centuries; Died at his home West Lee St.; said to be oldest
person in U.S. ; born negro slave in South Carolina; taken by master
Colonel Daniels to Florida (Spanish territory); captured by Indians
and held 3 years; escaped and returned to master; moved west with
master to Louisiana or Mississippi then to Texas; finally settled at
Greenville living with his granddaughter; mistress certified his age;
born 1782;

John C. Evans died at his home near Duplex, Sunday; survivors:  wife and 4 children.  Will H. and Mrs. Jesse Briley of Bonham; Marse and Maud near Duplex.  Born near Carthage , Smith Co., Tenn., 17 Dec 1847; resettled Greenville, Kentucky; underage enlistee in CSA;
served in Capt Parvey’s scouts, under Gen. Bedford Forest; also scout under Gen. Sul Ross; after war to Texas to be with brother  W.A. Evans.

grippe/Bright’s disease; buried Porter’s graveyard; born Louisburg,
Tn. 15 March 1854; to Texas 1858 to Savoy, Ravenna; mercantile
business; in Bonham about 2 yrs.; survivors:  wife, 2 half sisters in
Oklahoma
