Obituary
of Margrette Roland
"Leslie, Margaret Lane 23 Dec.1865-16 Sep.1947
wife of Leonard "
Miss Margrette Delaine Roland
was born December 23, 1865,
in McMinn county, Tennessee and was
converted and joined
the Baptist church in Double Springs,
Tenn., when very young.
She was the daughter of Phillip Roland,
deceased. She was
married to C. J. Leslie on Aug. 27,
1887, in Tennessee. They
came to Texas in the fall of 1893
settling in the Bailey com-
munity where she spent the remainder
of her life with the
exception of four years she spent
in West Texas.
She was the mother of seven children,
five of whom survive;
Bill of Bonham, Fannie Sudderth of
the home, Frank of Dallas, Leonard of Bailey, Hurbert of Houston, Mrs.
Aster Smith and
Homer who have passed on. She also
leaves her husband and
four brothers, Cal Roland of West
Texas, Henry Roland of
Denham, La., Tom Roland of Athens,
Tenn., Little Jim Roland
of Kamih, Idaho; three sisters, Mrs.
Mattie Boyd of Hillsboro,
Texas, Mrs.Parthenia Crittenden of
Orlando, Fla., and Tessie
Perkins of Charleston, Tenn.
Mrs. Leslie passed away at the hospital
at Greenville, Texas,
October 5, 1943, after a lingering
illness of five years being
seriously ill for two weeks prior
to passing on. The funeral
was held in the Baptist church at
Bailey, October 7, with Dr.
B. F. Milam officiating. Burial was
at Grove Hill. Pallbearers
were Harry Edwards, Charlie Karr,
John T.Leslie, J. M. Brown,
Elmer Bearden and Billie Bradshaw.
Flower maids were her neighbors, sweet old ladies some near her age, some
were young
that they might assist the elder
ones, namely Mrs. Cora Tefteller, Mrs. Hubert Brown, Mrs. Grace Brown,
Mrs. Sallie Bradshaw,
Mrs. Cordie Boldin, Mrs. Charlie
Karr, Mrs. Harvey Edwards,Mrs. Virgie Lee Edwards, Mrs.Lilas Wilkinson
and Miss Addie Journey.
In the passing of this dear woman
a dutiful wife, a precious mother and a good neighbor was given up. She
was a woman of few words. Never speaking ill of anyone. She always had
a kind word and a smile for everyone. All the years of suffering were borne
in patience. Just a few days before her going she told her family she knew
she was going to leave them but she told them not to grieve that she
was ready and had no fear. Like the
true mother she was when her children were small she was ever ready a toy
to mend, a wound to bind, she had no fear as she approached the river of
death, for she was confident of Christ's approval of her finished life.
She regretted to leave loved ones behind but the glorious future that unfolded
to her vision dimmed the carnal eye and opened the spiritual eye to
life everlasting. And what a blessed
thought to know that she is at rest, no more suffering, sorrow, sickness
or death, just life eternal, just waiting and watching for her faithful
husband and devoted children and grandchildren, so don't disappoint her,
be ready when the summons comes that you may join her on that golden shore.
When things go wrong, as they sometimes
will,
When the road you're trudging seems
all uphill,
When cares are passing you down a
bit,
Rest if you must---but don't quit.
----A friend and neighbor
