"The First Soldier boy from this section to lose his life while in
the service of Uncle
Sam, and the second from Fannin County, was Lee Jones , whose home
was
near Allen's Point. Mr. Jones who was about 20 years old left for
Camp Travis
a few months ago , having been selected and accepted by his country
for service
in the Army. About three weeks ago the young soldier was stricken
with pneumonia.
His father was notified of the son's condition and went to
Camp Travis to
see his boy. Young Jones condition improved and when his father
left him
no doubts were entertained of ultimate
recovery. But a short time after the father reached home, his son
suffered
a relapse and last Thursday night the young Soldier died. Monday
afternoon
the remains reached Honey
Grove and were taken to the old home near Allen's Point, from which
he went
out a few months ago to do battle for his native land. Tuesday ,
in the presence
of many neighbors and friends, the young soldier who had cherished
hopes of rendering great service in the war for humanity and human rights
was laid to
rest in the pretty cemetery at Allen's Point ."
