Nobility
See
what the Handbook of Texas Online says about Nobility
Nobility is located 7 miles west of Leonard
and about 1 mile from Collin County. Nobility was first called Gentry after
an early settler named William Gentry. Other early settlers were T. J.
Wheat, J. McClary, S. A. Golden, Andy Cowen, P. A. Johnson, E. E. Golden,
the Holcombs, and the Webbs. Mr. Gentry also served as the first postmaster.
But Nobility had the same problem as many little towns springing up all
over Texas - other little towns beat them to a name. So the town had to
find a new name - it was Nobility. Reverend Martin Gentry organized the
first church in 1881.
In the 1880's & 1890's,
Nobility was a thriving community.
But later, only a handful
of residents remain.
