JASPER K. McLAIN
   Services for Jasper Keller McLain of 303 W. Texas St., 
79-year old farmer and carpenter who died Saturday at his 
home, were held Monday in Center St. Church of Christ.
Roy Hazel of Gunter, Ed Doggett, elder of the church, and the
Rev. Thomas Beall, Baptist minister of Bonham, officiated. 
Burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park directed by Waldo 
Funeral Home.

Mr. McLain was born in Mertens, a son of Arthur Washington
McLain and Ella Vanila Keller McLain, and attended schools 
in Bug Tussle near Dorchester.

He married Ola Aline Francis on Dec. 17, 1935 in Durant, and 
following her death, married Marie McCurdy on Sept. 4, 1966 
in Sherman.

Mr. McLain was a farmer in the Dorchester and Gunter areas
until he retired in 1966 because of poor health.  He was a member of Center St.Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Betty Taylor of Sherman and Peggy Maples of Gunter; stepsons, Douglas McCurdy of Carrollton and Scooter McCurdy of Cedar Park; step- 
daughters, Louise Tidwell of Dallas and Nelda Ayres of 
Austin; sisters, Thelma Reece of Stockton, Calif., Dorothy 
Banks and Joyce Duckett, both of Denison and Helen Caylor 
of Ravenna; four grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and 
seven great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers were grandsons.

JASPER KELLER McLAIN

Sherman - Funeral for Jasper Keller McLain, 79, who died 
Saturday at his home in Sherman, was held at 2 p.m. today in
Center St. Church of Christ.

Burial was in  Cedarlawn Memorial Park under the direction of
Waldo Funeral Home.

McLain was born Feb. 17, 1908, in Mertens.   He married Ola
Aline Francis on Dec. 17, 1935.  She died Feb. 22, 1966.  He 
later married  Marie McCurdy Sept. 4, 1966, in Sherman.  He 
was a retired farmer and carpenter in Dorchester and Gunter 
area.  He retired in 1966.  He attended Bug Tussle School in
Dorchester and was a member of the Center Street Church of
Christ in Sherman.

Surviving include his wife, Marie; two daughters, Betty Taylor
of Sherman and Peggy Maples of Gunter; stepsons, Douglas
McCurdy of Carrollton and Scooter McCurdy of Cedar Park;
two stepdaughters, Louise Tidwell of Dallas and Nelda Ayres 
of Austin; four sisters, Thelma Reece of Stockton, Calif.,
Dorothy Banks and Joyce Duckett of Denison and Helen 
Caylor of Ravenna; four grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren 
and seven great-grandchildren.

(research note:  Jasper Keller McLain was the grandson of 
Nathaniel W. McLain and Mary Morris who were married 
Tallapoosa Co., Alabama.  Jasper's relatives include the 
Hasten and Perry families who settled in Ellis and Fannin 
Counties., TX.)
