Land Records of Fannin County

"Newspaper editors, taking note of diminished growth in the number of landowners, actively promoted their counties while deriding western lands.  In March 1908 the editor of the Bonham News asserted, 'A man who can buy improved land in Fannin County at from $18 to $40 per acre and who will then go to uninhabited plains and buy prairie dog towns, cactus hills and rocky canyons at from $10 to $30 an acre needs a guardian.'
