In March 1908 the editor of the Bonham News asserted, 'A man who can buy improved land in Fannin County at from $18 to $40 per acre and who will then go to uninhabited plains and buy prairie dog towns, cactus hills and rocky canyons at from $10 to $30 an acre needs a guardian.' "
