Herman & Maude Bramlett
One time mayor of Ladonia, Herman Bramlett
was born in the King Community west of town. He married Maude Louise Whitley
on Dec. 15, 1923. Herman was manager of The Union Produce Company, a store
in Ladonia. Many remember the treat of drinking a bottle of Dr. Pepper
from the coke box at the front of the wooden floored store. Herman understood
the farmers life and allowed them to wait to pay their grocery bills when
the crops came in. He lived a block from the fire station so as a driver,
he got the truck to the fire in short order. Herman stayed young by pitching
for Ladonia's soft ball team well into his fourties. The Bramlett's were
members of the Methodist Church.
Maude Bramlett taught, quilted, and served many a meal
at the Lords Acre Supper at the Methodist Church in Ladonia. She was a
member of the study club, Methodist Missionary Society, and earned her
LVN nursing degree at the age of 61 right after her husband Hermans death.
The Bramletts had one child, a daughter. They were a kind and helpful couple
to fellow Ladonians.
