Free Hart Prairie
Map
This
beautiful prairie was settled by Free Hart its' namesake. This piece of
prime land did not flood as most of the Bois d'Arc bottom area did and
was considered a very healthful place to live.
This information came from
Nancy Hart:
"Free Hart was the son of
John (Capt. John) Hart,
d. 1841 and Rebecca Johnson.
Their children were Free L. b. c. 1817; Hardin (a district judge in Hunt
County); Martin, b. ca 1818-hung Jan. 23, 1863 in Arkansas (book ; BRUSH
MEN AND VIGILANTIES) and Rebecca b. ca 1820 married John C.Williams June
2, 1842 in Fannin County and Freeman L. Little.
Free was given a labor and
a league of land (I believe that is correct), equal to what a married man
would receive (so he must have been married).Fannin County 1850 census
."
