He was born in Fosters Settlement Jan. 29, 1830

     W. L. Foster was an ordained Baptist Minister with a B.A. and M.A. from Univ. of Ala.;Graduate of University of Alabama with distinction 1850. 
     In the spring of 1862, W.L. Foster enlisted as a Private in Co F 35th Mississippi Volunteer Infantry Regt. where he served as chaplain. His unit was assigned to the defense of Vicksburg. A lengthy letter written to his wife documents the Fall of Vicksburg. He later took part in the Atlanta campaign and served til the end of the war. After the war, Foster accepted a professorship of mathematics at Waco University [now Baylor], but stayed only 6 months then left to follow his love, the ministry. In 1868 he became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Ladonia, TX. and died there less than a year later (5 Aug 1869) at the age of thirty nine.
