Israel Culbertson is found on
the 1850 and 1860 St. Clair
County Missouri Federal census.
In 1860 as head of household
and in 1850, at the age of 10 years
with Josiah Bailey. Israel enlisted
September 18, 1862, Missouri
6th Calvary, a Confederate unit
under the command of Joseph
Shelby. Pension papers filed
with the State of Texas indicate that
he was a "Teamster and Ambulance
Driver" during the Civil War.
The 1860 federal census shows
him married to Sarah (Louise
Walters), age 16 and he remarried
in 1868. According to the 1870
Fannin County Texas Federal
census, he is listed as #306, born in Tennessee,
age 32 white male, his wife is listed as Mary (Martha
Matilda Ellis),age 23, born
in Missouri and with a female child,
Ellen age 4 months, born in
Texas, His occupation was "Works
in mill" wages 0-$400. Israel
died November 23, 1887, in Fannin
County, Texas.
