John Crumby, Native of County Dies; Buried Today

John Crumby, 85, a native of Fannin County, died Saturday at 2:15 pm at his home in Ravenna, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held today at 2 pm at Ravenna Methodist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Jim Weaver officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Ferguson, Baptist minister of Parker’s Grove. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, at Ravenna.

Mr. Crumby was born November 12, 1865 in Fannin County.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Crumby, Ravenna; four sons, P.L. Crumby, J.C. Crumby and J.B. Crumby; three daughters, Mrs. Clay Taylor, Ravenna; Mrs. Dona Russell, Fort Worth; Mrs., W.O. Harville, Bonham; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Alton Winkler, Ed Ray, Ralph Crumby, O.T. Finley and Weldon Doggett.

Ravenna Services Held Today for Mrs. Crumby

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Crumby, long-time resident of Ravenna, who died March 18, 1956, were conducted by the Rev. James Harper, Baptist minister at the Baptist church in Ravenna at 3 o’clock today.

Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery, with Cooper Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Ernest Hastin, Raymond Perry, Austin Taylor, Weldon Doggett, Carl Troutt and Charlie Lewis.

Survivors are four sons, P.L. Crumby of Fort Worth, Johnnie, J.B. and J.C. Crumby all of Sherman; three daughters, Mrs. Clay Taylor of Ravenna, Mrs. Dona Russell of Forth Worth and Mrs. W.O. Harvill of Bonham; one brother, Tom Hall of Hamilton County; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and two great- great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Crumby was born in Collin County on Aug. 31, 1870, and was 85 years of age. She and her husband, the late John C. Crumby, who died in 1951, had reared their family and made their home in Ravenna for many years. She had been in ill health for several years and was bed ridden for the past year. Until ill health prevented her attending, she was active in the work of the Methodist church of which she was a member.
