Information from Nancy Jane Samuel Jackson, his daughter.
"My father graduated from Ladonia High School in the
class of 1937. He joined the calvary at Ft. Bliss, Texas after high school
and was later sent to Ft. Riley, Kansas. From there he was was sent overseas.
He was with the 3rd Army under the 28th calvary and 6th Calvary group Reconnaissance
under the leadership of General Patton. He was awarded both the Silver
Star and the Purple Heart posthumously."

Samuel Reburial at Ladonia Sunday

Ladonia - The body of 1st Lt. Norman F. Samuel killed
in action in Germany, will arrive here Saturday for reburial Sunday. Service
at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 O'Clock, will be conducted
by the pastor, the Rev. Arthur Ackenbam and the Delta Funeral Home here
will make burial.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Samuel, and married
Miss Dorothy Hix of Kansas City, while stationed there during Army Training.
He entered service after graduation from high school here, and was first
assigned to Fort Bliss, El Paso. He was serving with General Patton's Third
Army when he was killed.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday at
the Methodist church in Ladonia, Tex., for Lieut. Norman F. Samuel, 25
years old who was killed March 3, 1945, during the Battle of the Rhine.
He was a reconnaissance officer with 6th Cavalry group.
He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Jane Samuel, 7321
Wabash Avenue; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy A. Samuel, and two brothers,
C. G. Samuel and Elmo Samuel, all of Ladonia.

Reburial Services Held Sunday for lt. Norman
Samuel
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church
Sunday afternoon for Lt. Norman Fred Samuel, Son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Samuel,
who was killed in Germany, March 1, 1945
Lt. Samuel was born January 17, 1920. He attended
Bartley Woods school and graduated from Ladonia High School in 1937. He
enlisted in the Army January i, 1938 and received his training at Ft. Bliss
and later was Cavalry instructor at Ft. Riley, Kansas.
He made the supreme sacrifice while serving with the
3rd cavalry group Reconnaissance under the leadership of Gen. Patton.
and was awarded the Silver Star posthumously. The following citation was
received by his family from the War Department, for Gallantry in action
against the enemy on March 1, 1945 in Germany. During his units bitterly
contested advance into the villages of Lambertsburg and Griemelschidi,
the brilliant leadership and hold aggressiveness, which Lt. Samuel displayed
so inspired his men that they drove forward with unfaltering determination.
On seeing the lead vehicle come under deadly crossfire as it entered the
second village he culminated his gallant conduct in a significant act of
heroism. Standing up in the turret of his armored car he undauntedly fired
the machine gun until his comrades escaped and he himself was mortally
wounded.
Lt. Samuel's bravery and courageous devotion to duty
are a tribute to his memory, and are in keeping with the finest traditions
of the United States".
He is survived by his young daughter, Nancy; his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Samuel, two brothers, Connie Samuel of Oklahoma and Elmo
Samuel of Dallas.
The reburial ws in the Ladonia Cemetery under the
direction of Walker- Bishop Post of the American Legion, Ladonia.
Rev. Arthur O. Ackenbom and Rev. M.D. Durham were
the officiating ministers.
