The Ragsdale Cemetery
Ragsdale was on the Red River north of where Monkstown
was to be years into the future.
There was a terrible epidemic and many folks died in the Ragsdale area.
No records exist of the list of dead. The bodies where taken in wagon loads
into the woods far enough south of Ragsdale to be safe from floods from
the Red River. Fear of infection kept people from the wooded area for a
long time. Old timers in the area remembered the wooden stobs marking the
cemetery 'somewhere' in the woods south of Monkstown" but today it is lost.
Today many people mistake the Richardson Cemetery
as the Ragsdale Cemetery because it was located next to the Ragsdale Schoolhouse
(gone now) .
