Orr's Chapel Cemetery
Often shown on maps as Arch Chapel ( a mistake )
This cemetery is located near where Bryans Ferry was across the Red River and the location of a Brush Arbor church meeting for two Methodist Preachers , Brothers named Orr (Henry & Nicholas). The Chapel was built from lumber  & windows brought from Jefferson by Mr.J.B.Denton and Mr. Stallings. ( J.B.Denton died in May 1841, killed by indians. Denton Co.TX is named for him.)
Originally I wrote "They did this in the fall of 1840 I believe" but I was wrong the chapel was not built until about 1880, though camp meetings had been there earlier. The cemetery predated the Chapel by a couple of years. The name was because one of the Orr's had died and he had worked also on the Chapel and it had been dedicated.
The original camp had been the preaching place of Denton and the Rev.'s Orr. I have read they were twin brothers.  Today this important Methodist Church and historic place seems to have lost it's correct name on Texas maps and shows up as "Arch Chapel" , I can only assume it was due to a thick Texas accent and the map makers!  It has also been recorded by misspelling in family records as "Orice Chapel".

Most of the Graves in this cemetery are unmarked.

From the center of the cemetery drive looking south to the 'gate'.
The cemetery covers  5 acres. Lots of stickers in the grass and poison ivy.
The deed for this cemetery was not recorded until Dec 3,1883.
Though the burials had already begun in the decade before.
Estimate for first burial is about 1879

Who's Little Babies? How many did they lose?

We still have about a quarter of the cemetery to do.
