Comments: This cemetery
lies 2 miles north of Hwy 34
on the North Sulphur River.
It appears in the Floy Hodge

However it is known that
these are in the cemetery,
Her information paraphrased
Capt. John P. Henslee 1774-1858
(war of 1812)from Ga.
and his wife Sarah Payne
Henslee 1774-1858 b. NC
Also these brothers
of John P. are also buried there as well
as many other Henslee family
members and their slaves.
James Henslee (twin
brother to John P.)
William Henslee b.1772
and David b. 1775
This fromCindy
Henslee Stamps who would like to share her information with any Henslee
researchers.
John Payne Henslee died
15 Apr 1856 inFannin Co; his wife, Sarah Suiter Henslee, daughter of Mary
& William Elliot
Suiter, died 6 Oct 1861
in Fannin Co; she is in the 1860
census. The James
is not John Payne Henslee's brother; he had no twin. He does have
twin sons named James and John, both
of whom moved to Hunt Co.
John Payne was the 2nd child
of his parents, David Henslee
and Mary Payne of Caswell
and Rockingham Co. NC. His brother named William was David &
Mary's last child, born 1800. John Payne and Sarah also had a son
named David
(they had 15 children that
they brought to Fannin Co.
Their
David was born 10 Oct 1818 and died in 1876 in Hunt Co. The family
lived in GA and Cherokee Co. AL before moving to Fannin Co. I hired
a professional researcher to search the
GA Archives. She found
no records of 1812 war service; I had already searched the Dallas Library
and had the same result. However, John Payne Henslee was a captain
and major in
the GA militia, which all
able bodied men were required to
serve it.
