Brown Family Notes

From Joyce (Woodruff) Terrana, Burleson, Tx.
"E. T. Brown and his second wife Louisa Jane Bowman Brown, are both buried at Grove Hill cemetery. "
" Louisa Jane Bowman ('Louiza J.')  b 30 Mar 1840 Rutherford Co, Tn, died 25 Nov 1923, Fannin Co, Tx, bur Grove Hill Cemetery, at Leonard, Tx (not far from their farmhouse). Louisa was the daughter of James T. Bowman and wife Mary Brown.  Louisa married 7 Jan 1857 in Rutherford Co, Tn by minister, J. B. Sanders to Edmond Tarleton BROWN  (Sr),  b 16 Apr 1823 Tn d 26 Feb 1904  at Bailey (death certificate: Fannin Co, Texas 26 Feb 1904 file #27,000 or 27600 in name of E. T. Brown). He was son of John and Charlotte
Brown. It is believed that these Browns were not related to the mother of  Louisa J. Bowman (also a Brown). Edmond and Louisa J. (Bowman) Brown remained in Rutherford Co, Tn until ca 1902 when they came to Fannin Co,  however some of their married children likely came, a little ahead of them. Several of Louisa's cousins and their grown married children were already in Fannin or Hunt Counties in the late 1800s which included the Woodruff and Gregory
families."
"Edmond had been married before, to Louisa's cousin, Mary Bowman and had  5 children by Mary. After Mary died, Edmond married Louisa and had 11  children by her. I am primarily a Bowman researcher and have traced these Bowmans to the first one to arrive in U. S. living by 1740 in western Maryland. Louisa's grandfather, Daniel Bowman born 1759 Md was a Rev war pensioner and all her descendants are eligible for DAR. "

TOMBSTONE DATA: Louisa and E. T. Brown Sr were buried in Grove Hill Cemetery at Leonard, very near farmplace where Louisa lived at time of her death.  Henry C. Brown, a son of Louisa J. and E. T. Brown Sr carved each of their stones. These upright stones had become damaged over the years. A descendant, Jack P. Brown of Leonard, Texas removed them, carefully restored and replaced
these (now flat on ground). He has the sincere thanks of all the descendants. The United Methodist Church that joins the cemetery holds an annual Cemetery Association meeting followed by a covered dish luncheon. I attended it in 1998 after stones had been replaced.  Have found the death certificate of E. T. Brown Sr, it said he died Feb 26, 1904.  I have not found Louisa's death certificate and it certainly should have been recorded at the courthouse in 1923. Here is what is written on their tombstones at Grove Hill.
