  OSCAR L. BLANTON - Oscar L. Blanton, who was a Boy Scout leader for 30 years,
died Sunday at a Fort Worth hospital.  He was 87.  // Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday
at University Christian Church, where he was a member.  Burial will be private.  Shannon's
South Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  / Mr. Blanton was born in Savoy,
Fannin County, and moved to Fort Worth in the 1930's.  He worked in  Boy Scouts for 50
years and was named executive director of the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of
America before he retired in the 1960's.  He remained a member of the executive board of
the council until his death. // Mr. Blanton was honored with the Silver Beaver Award in
1940 for his volunteer work.  Mr. Blanton was a past president of the Fort Worth chapter
of Civitan International and a charter member of the Fort Worth chapter 1430 of the
American Association of Retired Persons.  // Survivors include his wife of 65 years,
Elizabeth Steele Blanton of  Fort Worth; one daughter, Betty Blanton Crabtree of
Granbury; one brother, Tom Blanton of Sherman; two sisters, Flora Lay and Nadine
 Blanton, both of Sherman, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
(Researcher’s note:  Oscar was son of William Foster Blanton  and Rebecca Virginia
Wrenn.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Jefferson Blanton and Elizabeth Jane
Locke.)
