HAROLD BLANTON
SET FOR FRIDAY
Lost Life in Attack on Salerno Beach
Reburial services for PFC. Harold B. Blanton, son of Mr. and Mrs. John R.
Blanton of the Nunnelee community, will be held at the Wise Funeral Home at
3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon with the rev J. L. Gregory and Dr. B. F. Milam
officiating. burial will be in Willow Wild cemetery with the James Bragg
Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in charge of the graveside services.
PFC. Blanton was killed in action against the enemy at Salerno Beach on
Sept. 13, 1943. He had enlisted in the Army on Sept. 2, 1942 and after
receiving his basic training at Camp Wolters was assigned to Co. B, 142nd
Inf. Div. fifth Army.
He had received the Purple Heart and Presidential citation.
Born January 30, 1921 at Sulphur Springs, Blanton was residing in the
Savoy community at the time he entered the U.S. Armed forces.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Blanton of the
Nunnelee community; two brothers Wesley and Leslie Blanton, Bonham; five
sisters, Mrs. Glorine Wright, Bonham; Mrs. Margaret Hall, Sulphur Springs;
Misses Helen and Bonnie Blanton, Sherman and Miss Mildred Blanton Bonham,
and his grandmother Mrs. A.E. Clark (sic- should be Mrs. W. H. Clark ),
Sherman.

(Researcher's comment: Harold J. Blanton's paternal grandparents were
Walter Duffy Blanton and Nancy Culbreath. His uncle and aunt were Benjamin
F. "Frank" Blanton and his wife Julia Blanton (maiden surname same as
marriage surname).
