FUNERAL SERVICES ARE SET TODAY FOR MRS. VERNON GILLIAM (aka Mable T. Wren Blanton Gilliam)
   Funeral services or Mrs. Vernon W. Gilliam, 47, who was found dead at her home at 921 32nd st., about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Central Baptist Church.  Burial will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery by McDonald Funeral Home.
   Mrs. Gilliam's body was found in a bedroom at her home by Charles Howard, step-son.  She had been a resident here since 1924.
   Police said a gas hose had been disconnected from a stove and inserted under a towel over Mrs. Gilliam's face after the gas was turned on.  A note was found on a table beside her bed.
   INQUEST IS CONDUCTED
   Justice of the Peace F.R. Land, conducing an inquest into the death had not returned a verdict late Monday.  However, he said Mrs. Gilliam's death "appeared to be suicide."    Police and a fire department emergency crew rushed to the home but the firemen were unable to revive the woman.
   She is survived by her husband, Howard, and another step-son, Vernon Ray Gilliam Teague; a brother, Carl Wren, Winsboro; five sisters, Mrs. Velma Edge, Lubbock; Mrs. Clyde Boren, Houston; Mrs. Mike Pearson, Ralls; Mrs. Omah Knight, Beverly Hills, Calif; Mrs. Doyle Morris, Lubbock; and her mother, Mrs. Mattie Wren, Lubbock.
 (Research note:  Mrs. Vernon W. Gilliam was the former Mable T. Wren Blanton, widow of James Otho Blanton.  She was the mother of one child, James Ralph Blanton, who is presumed to have preceded his mother in death. Mable was the daughter of Robert White Wren and Myrtle Parker and the granddaughter of  Jack Wren and Mary Richardson.
James Otho Blanton was the son of John Stephen Blanton and Nannie Rebecca Jones and the grandson of Benjamin F. Blanton and Julia Ann Blanton and the g-grandson of Benjamin Edward Blanton and Mary Feagans of Rutherford Co., NC and of Fannin Co., TX pioneers, Stephen F. Blanton and Sarah McDaniel.)

God advertised the need for a master teacher, LaQuita L. Porter applied and was accepted on December 20, 2000.  She was 56 years of age.  LaQuita was a retired classroom teacher from SAISD.  She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Glenn E. Porter; mother Jakie Blanton; sons (sic-step-sons), John and Patrick Porter; grandson (sic - step-grandson) Brendan Porter; sister, Karron Folsom and her husband Tom; brother, James Blanton, and (former parents-in-law) Frances and Frank Herweck; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  A Memorial Service will be held at Rector Memorial United Methodist Church, 12099 Robert Glenn, December 26, 2000, 2:00 P.M. (Church is on the corner of Pearsall Road and 1604).  In lieu of flowers,

(research note: Following her instructions, LaQuita's ashes were scattered on her parents property situated in the Texas Gulf coast region.  LaQuita was the daughter of Marvin Wilson Blanton and Jakie Louise Warren.
LaQuita's maternal grandparents were James Warren and Bessie Carter; her paternal grandparents were Isaac Milton Blanton and Daisey Teague. LaQuita's g-grandparents were Pleasant McDonald Teague and Marshall Malinda Bradbury and Rev. Benjamin Franklin Blanton and Sarah L. Boone.  Her g-great grandparents were Fannin County pioneers Josiah Blanton and Lucy Westbrook and Joseph R. Boone and Virginia E.M. Crenshaw.)

BLANTON - Jakie Louise Warren Blanton, age 81, of Atascosa, TX, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2003 in Lytle. She was born July 16, 1921 in Ivanhoe, TX to the late James William and Bessie Jane Carter Warren. Jakie was a member of the Rector Memorial United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, VFW Post No. 8134 Ladies Auxiliary in La Coste and the Tinsley Homemakers Club.
She and her husband owned and operated Blanton's Neighborhood Grocery in Atascosa for many years. In addition to her parents, Jakie was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Wilson Blanton and daughters, Mona Vernae Blanton and LaQuita Porter. She is survived by her son, James Marvin Blanton of Seguin; daughter and son-in-law, Karron and Tom Folsom of Von Ormy; son-in-law, Glenn Porter of San Antonio; grandchildren, Renae Blanton, James Milton Blanton, Jennifer Amavisca and Jay Folsom; seven great- grandchildren; sister, Flossie Morgan of Bonham; sisters-in-law, Opal Harden of Marlin, Vernelle Moore of Wichita Falls. Visitation will be Thursday, February 20, 2003 from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville, TX. The Funeral Service will be Friday, February 21, 2003 at 2:00 at Rector Memorial United Methodist Church, 12099 Robert Glenn, San Antonio, TX 78252. Visitation will also be held Saturday, February 22, 2003 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Wise Funeral Home in Bonham, TX. Graveside Service and Interment will be Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Randolph Cemetery in Randolph, TX. Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home.
