LETTER FROM Ruby Mae Blanton to her husband Ben Winkler, who in 1925 was working in Honey Grove, Fannin Co., TX. Ruby was dying from T.B. she caught while nursing her dying father. When this letter was  written 24-year old Ruby had 3 small children, a son John William, born 1919, a daughter Helen Ruth born 1922 and a baby girl, Dorothy Earline born April 1925. John William Winkler Blanton died within 2 weeks of  his mother. At Ruby's request her daughters, Helen Ruth and Dorothy, were reared by their paternal  grandmother, the widowed Martha Cook Winkler of Ravenna. 

       Ruby Mae Blanton Winkler died December 12, 1925. She was daughter of John E.A.Blanton and Margaret E. Keller. Ruby's grand -parents were the Rev. Benjamin Blanton, founder of Blanton's Chapel Church, and Sarah L. Boone and George W. Keller and Julia Ann Sturdivant. Ruby's maternal g-grandparents were Joseph R.
Boone and Virginia E. M. Crenshaw and Josiah Blanton and Lucy Westbrook. Except for Margaret Keller Blanton and Ruby's daughters, all of the above named individuals are buried in Fannin Co., TX.

  Mr. Ben Winkler

  Dearest Ben - I will drop you a few lines leaves (?) me like I was - ah say I am so lonesome I cant hardly see  straight since you left. Will Ben If you can get off after me come after me come as soon as you can for the  more I think of coming home the more I want to. last (sic) night the boys had it around thay went to a dance  got home at 1 oclock and bucked and raired for a hour. I liked to never got any sleep. Ah it is awful. but Dear I  cant help it. It is just to bad for Brothers to do like that. will did Willie come back or not rite me unless you  come in the few days. say Dear that man had to come after his tank. less wouldn't let Eddin have the horse to  get the mules up and wouldn't go after them his self. I have done told mama I was going home. she don't want  me to go but I cant stay here among this. it would be alright wasnt for the boys. I feel so sorry for moma. poor thing gets a cursin every time the boys hit the house. I tried to talk to less last night and he got mad at me  said some few hard thing but I dont care he is the one that will suffer for it not me. I am so glad god forgives  every one another for his own sin. Dear come when you can I am so blue to day but I guess it is for the best.
 Now when you come you dont let moma know I rote and told you to come for she is wearied enough with out  me wearing her any. Ah! it is awfull. I think it is best for me and her for me to go because she is wore out and  needs a little rest. if you come after me you come in a car and fix it to where I can lay down in ghe back seat. I  have got plenty of quilts to make a bed for me. As you come stop at Caddo and ask Dr. Dale about it. now be  sure and do that forb I dont want to do any thing that will wet me back as I told you Dear I will do my best so be good until I see you or at least as good as you can. I know you cant be perfic with out god but you can do  your best and by doing that you may some day be all rite. forget all evel thing and lean to the thing that are  rite. My love and prayrs are your and our home. may god bless each of us and all that made his love. So good   by.
