This area was first called Allen's Creek
for the creek also Allen's Lead Mine. The mine was close by and provided lead all during the War Between the States for bullets.
There was a coal mine across the creek providing fuel for blacksmith work . After the War there
was a Post Office established there and called Yew. Later when a school House was built it
was called Allen's Point again. I read a story somewhere of the story of the Gwaltney house raising. Of the 18 families that
where living in what is now Fannin County 17 of them where present. " 5 barrels of whiskey and 3
large cows were consumed" There are some springs in the area used as a health spa in the old days
, called Meade Springs.
