I am searching for information on the family of John P. and Elizabeth (Shed) HARRIS. Children included William H., James Thomas, Laura, John, Robert, Ducilla and Miranda HARRIS. The last time that I found John and Elizbeth was in 1870 census, Hopkins County, TX. however, several of their children including James, Robert and John subsequently appeared in the 1880 Fannin County census. At least part of the family eventually moved on into Oklahoma.

I am trying to locate information on my maternal family. My grandfather Cecil Noah was orphaned at a very early age and not much was known about his family. His father's name was J A NOAH and his mother was CHAROLLET ELLIS. I believe J A NOAH'S parents were J.W. NOAH AND ELIZABETH NOAH. J.W. and ELIZABETH are both burried in the State Cemetry in Austin. I located them in the 1860 cesus which shows them to have lived in Fannin County. The census shows they filed in Fannin county at the Warren Post Office.

Birth dates are:     J.W. NOAH 1828
                     ELIZABETH 1840
What I am trying to find out is Elizabeth's maiden name and the names of their children.
Let me thank you in advance for any information you can provide me.
I am the vice president of the San Marcos Herrtiage Association. If there is anything I can do for you here in San Marcos or Hays County, please let me know. Thank you, Rodney van Oudekerke

RAGSDALE or RAGSDILL -- Fannin Co. (ca. 1845-1859) Ellis S. RAGSDILL (family name originally spelled RAGSDALE) and his wife Zilpha SMITH, living in Fannin Co by 1852, where their youngest son, Ellis Saunders RAGSDILL was born in that year. May have arrived earlier, as the last record we have shows them in Arkansas (Lawrence and Independence Counties) up to 1843. (Have not found them in 1850 census index, but this could be indexing error.) By 1860 census they were living in Erath Co, TX, but were not yet there by 1857 land records, so were probably still in Fannin Co. until 1858/59.
Children: John Milligan RAGSDILL (b. 1835), Lydia Lee RAGSDILL (b. 1837), George W. RAGSDILL (b. 1842), Eugenia Frances RAGSDILL (b.1846), Celia M. RAGSDILL (b. 1849) and Ellis Saunders RAGSDILL (b. 1852). They also had one son and two daughters b.ca. 1831-34 and a daughter b. ca. 1840 whose names we don't yet know, as they were no longer at home by 1860 census. The older children may have stayed in Fannin Co. I see from other queries that there was or is a settlement named RAGSDALE in Fannin County. Would also appreciate any info on the family that founded this town/settlement.

Can anybody furnish me with the name of a newspaper or some other source that might have a copy of my grandfather's obituary? He was Dennis Trigg Willcox, who was marrried to Nannie J. Robinson in 1891. Dennis was born in AR in 1865 and died in Bonham on 06-Feb-1901. He's buried in Section F of the Willow Wild Cemetery. I know that much about him, but that's about all. I've been trying to find the names of his parents and any other ancestors or possible siblings, but to no avail, and hope a copy of his obituary might yield some information.

I researching the McCarty's. In a book I ran across on History of Fannin County, Texas, 1836-1843 it recalls the first settlers to this area being Bailey Inglish, Andrew Thomas, Andrew Daughtery, Robert and Wm. McCarty relationship unknown at this time along with others. In this book it recalls the murders of Daugherty and McCarty by Indians where Orangeville now stands. I was wanting to know if anywhere else in the history of Fannin if it tells where these settlers came from. They all received class 2 land grants and the acreage he received it states he was married. I was also wanting to know more information on this subject. I think it may help me finally make a connection to Wm. My ggggrandfather was a Wm. McCarty, but there are so many Wm's. I was wondering about what happen to his family. It only states of the McCarty's a young boy was killed. Wm. McCarty is listed on the 1840 Fannin County Tax List so I was wondering if he is also on the 1840 census as well. I just need info. on the guy to hopefully fill in my gaps. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. [email protected] Thanks, Michelle Blakemore

LANKSTON

Looking for information or records on the Methodist Orphanage that was in Fannin County in 1906.  My grandmother and her
4 sister's were all given away between late 1906 and early 1907.  We have located all but one of her sisters and we would
appreciate any help.  The girls were as follows:

Nannie Mae Lankston  b: 6/20/1897  AR
Myrtle Pearl Lankston  b: 9/9/1899  Lamar Co TX, or AR
Willie Ada Lankston  b: 1901-1903 Location unknown
Effie Lee Lankston-McDowell  b: 4/5/1904 Fannin Co, TX
      Myrtle Lenora Lankston-Long  b: 7/14/1906 Fannin Co
           (my grandmother)

Willie Ada is the only child we have not been able to locate.  She was the second child given away.  Nannie Mae was the
first.

By 1910, Nannie Mae was with the Thomas Hern family in Lamar County and Pearl was down the Road (Leon Ward Road)
with a family named Bevill.  Effie Lee and my grandmother ended up with families in Bonham and grew up only blocks away
from each other.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
