Nicholas P. Sims

Born in Virginia 1806, third child of John Sims. Was a teacher for some years, farmed in Mississippi, finally moving to Ellis County. He married Amanda M. Zollicoffer about 1828. They had no children and after her death he married a first cousin, Mrs. Eliza Harlan Dunlap. He died in 1902. His will reads in part "....having no descendants and having passed the best years of my life in Ellis County where I have accumulated the bulk of my forture....I am desirous of promoting the mental, moral and physical advancement of said county and the city of Waxahachie...." This led to the establishment of the Nicholas P. Sims Library in Waxahachie.
