Robert Henry Fuqua

Robert Henry Fuqua, prominent Ellis County farmer, is a son of William Fuqua, (born 1812 Bedford County, Virginia).

William Fuqua subsequently removed to Mississippi, and on to Ellis County, Texas, where he now resides. [1892] He is a farmer and a minister of the Baptist Church. He married Mary Prest (born Virginia 1815). Mr. and Mrs. Fuqua were the parents of five children: Mary E., (married W. F. Milan, of Arkansas); second child died infancy; John T.,( killed at the battle of Chickamauga); fourth child died infancy; and Robert [our subject].

William Fuqua's second wife was Mary Johnson, a native of Alabama.  Their five children: Martha, (died young); Downy A., (lives Mississippi); Ann H., (married W. B. Hunt of Arkansas) and two others who died in infancy.

William Fuqua's third wife was Bettie Milam, native of South Carolina, by whom he had three children: Absolam, William H., ( teacher by profession, but now a coal dealer); and John Lee (resident Ellis County).

R. H. Fuqua,[ our subject] , was born in 1847 in Mississippi, and moved to Ellis County, Texas, where he rented a farm on Red Oak Creek. After a year, he bought a place two miles below Palmer, and in 1880, moved to his present home. R. H. Fuqua served in Ashcroft's Regt., CSA, and was in a number of skirmishes. At the time of surrender he was at Selma, Alabama.

In 1870 Robert Fuqua married Miss Lydia Jane Pratt (born in 1854 in Mississippi, daughter of I. S. and Mary Ann Pratt, natives of South Carolina). He and his wife are members of the K. and Ladies of H.  Both are members of the Baptist church.

Eight children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Fuqua: William T., (1871); Edward L. S.( March 25, 1874); Clara Ann, (Nov. 15, 1875); John H., (1877); Idella May,(1880); Almyra M.,(1882); Robert G. (1884) and Holder D. (1887).
