Unidentified man with Annie Jaresh Calta Photographer - Harper, Ennis, Texas The man may be her husband Frank Calta or possibly one of her Jaresh brothers. Annie was born in 1877 in Cleveland, Ohio but lived in Ellis Co. from the 1880s until 1934. She married Frank Calta. When Frank died in 1934, Annie and her children moved to Los Angeles, California. When she died in 1962, her remains were brought back to Ennis and buried at Crisp Cemetery beside her husband Frank. |

Unidentified woman Photographer - Harper, Ennis, Texas The woman is presumed to be a family member, in-law, or family friend. The photograph belongs to a descendant of the Jaresh and Calta families of the Ennis area. The Jaresh and Calta families lived in the Crisp, Alsdorf, Telico, and Garrett communities. The Jaresh men married women from the Karnik, Dostal, Petr, Martinek, and Jansa families. The Jaresh women married men from the Calta and Dolezalek families. |

This photo-postcard originally belonged to Thomas Jaresh and Katherine Calta Jaresh, my great-grandparents. Perhaps they took their cotton crops to this gin. They were Bohemian immigrants who came to Ellis County in the early 1880s from Cleveland, Ohio. Within the year, they bought a 70 acre farm near Telico. In 1890 they sold the Telico farm and bought 140 acres between Garrett and Ennis. They lived in Ellis County until 1916 when they moved to Grayson County. |
