Howard and Sons Blacksmithing

Howard and Sons Blacksmith Shop at 212 East Jefferson in Waxahachie was owned and operated by James Alexander Howard, a native of Unitia, Blount County Tennessee. He and his sons, James Andrew Frank Howard and Roscoe Houston Henry Howard started the business circa 1907. In 1908 Roscoe bought out his brother Frank's interest in the shop. The elder Howard passed away in 1937 and Roscoe continued to operate the business until 1969. His son Lloyd Howard who worked with him continued the business. These Howard men passed their craft down from one generation to the next. James A. Howard's father, William E. Howard, from Blount County, Tennessee was a blacksmith as well.

Someone told me the shop might still be standing. It should be near Flat Street and E. Jefferson. If you're ever in the neighborhood, take a look for me. I'd like to have someone take a recent photo of the place. Also anyone volunteers to do photos, I've been trying to get one of my g.g.grandmother's home at 219 Pecan Street. I was in Waxahachie 3 years ago and took some, but unfortunately that particular roll of film vanished! Made me very sad :(  It has been restored and it such a cute little yellow house.
