Pulaski [Tenn] Citizen, 21 Feb 1901

Mr. James Tennery received word a few days ago of the death of his oldest brother, Thomas, at Italy, Texas Jan. 19, 1901.

Mr Tennery was born  here on Buchanan Creek April 26, 1816 making him 84 years, 8 months and 25 days old.  Thomas Tennery moved to Texas when times there were tough. When he first moved there he wore rawhides and for a time subsisted on milk and meat without salt and could not obtain flour.  Transportation was difficult and doubtful but he prospered and the world is better for having such men as he.

Mr. Tennery was in the fight at San Jacinto and many skirmishes under the immortal Sam Houston for which the State of Texas gave him a section of land. His brother, who lives near me, was also a soldier in the Civil War under Gen. Bedford Forrest.

W. L. Holt, Bunker Hill
