Waxahachie Enterprise - 1904 Waxahachie Enterprise, February 19, 1904 From Research Conducted at the Nicholas P. Sims Library, Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas September 20, 2003 by Debbi Rodgers   Mr. J. W. Bussell called at this office Wednesday and authorized this paper to announce him a candidate for the office of Tax Collector of Ellis county. Announcements in newspapers by candidates for office are for the purpose of letting the public know who is asking for the support of the voters, and it has been the endeavor of this paper to give a faithful and hones description of the different gentlemen offering themselves for office through its columns. Mr. Bussell is a native of Christian County, Ky., and in that state and in the counties of Stewart and Montgomery, in Tennessee, he grew to manhood. In 1878 he emigrated to Texas and rented the first year on the farm of Dr. Hendley north of Waxahachie, and then moved to the Forreston community and later to Mt. Peak, where he bought a farm and where he resided continuously until recently when he sold out and moved to Midlothian. In all his twenty-five year's residence in Ellis county Mr. Bussell has been a successful farmer and stock raiser, and only when his health failed did he sell his farm. Mr. Bussell is an energetic, progressive, honest and upright man, and should he be elected will make the county an efficient officer. His announcement is subject to the democratic primary. A Quiet Marriage [Also published in Waxahachie Daily Light, February 11, 1904] Last Wednesday night at 8:30 Mrs. Dona Beale and Mr. R. W. Beaumont were united in marriage at the bride's home on West Jefferson street. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. R. Wright, of Temple, formerly pastor of the Methodist church of this city. The marriage was a quiet home affair and was witnessed only by a few relatives or the contracting parties. The newly wedded pair left next morning for Denison where they will spend a few days with the parents of the groom. From there they will go to Hillsboro to reside. Mr. Beaumont is a prominent business man of that city, while the bride is a daughter of Mrs. N. A. Thompson of this city and is a most estimable lady. Waxahachie Enterprise, February 26, 1904 Mr. E. H. Murphy, of Italy, called at this office last Thursday and authorized the Enterprise to announce him a candidate for the office of county commissioner in precinct No. 3. Mr. Murphy first located in Ellis county in 1858, near Palmer, where he still owns a farm. Ten years ago he moved to Italy where he engaged in blacksmithing and woodwork. For seven years he served his town as alderman. He has also been school trustee and so faithfully did he discharge these duties that two years ago he was elected mayor of his city. Mr. Murphy is a Christian gentleman, active in church work as in any other work to which he puts his hands. Should the voters of his precinct see fit to elect him commissioner, it is believed he will fill the office to the satisfaction of all concerned.
